How to Order

Each Horse-Moc is a custom-made shoe that requires the same attention to detail as a pair of bespoke ballroom slippers from George Cleverly or a tuxedo from Henry Poole. To ensure a perfect fit, you'll need to give us a tracing of your horse's hoof and a couple of measurements. Refer to the tracing guide page for an example. Here's how to do it:

  1. Before reading further, please understand that we must have the actual original tracings in our hands to create the custom sole pattern. Scanners and facsimile machines will distort the image significantly. Digital photographs with an included precision scale are equally unsuitable. The actual tracings tell us quite a bit about how your horse stands. It might be a good idea for you to make a photocopy of your tracings for your own records. We keep your horse's final patterns on file. Should you need a replacement boot and your new tracing is the same as your original one, we can send off a replacement boot quite quickly. (Should tragedy befall your horse, please let us know and we will retire the pattern.)

  2. Have your hoof care specialist remove the metal shoe and trim the hoof to the desired profile. Apply a slightly rounded bevel to the edges of the hoof. If, for the health and comfort of your horse, you must leave the metal shoe in place, please call us for specific instructions.

  3. Stand your horse on a hard surface and have it bear weight on the hoof. Trace your horse's hoof on a piece of strong paper or thin cardboard. (Paper plates are great!) Trace carefully right to the edge of the trimmed hoof. At the rear of the hoof, indicate the contour of the heel bulbs, where the frog ends in the back and the back corners of the hoof itself. This is important for a perfect fit.

  4. Label the tracing with your horse's name and indicate which hoof it is. For example, "LF" would indicate the horse's left-front hoof. Important! Write this label on the side of the tracing facing the hoof.

  5. Measure the circumference of the hoof at the coronet band and the circumference of the pastern at the slimmest part. Write these on the tracings clearly.

  6. Fill out our questionnaire. Your answers help us decide the best horse boots solution for your horse.

  7. Enclose your tracings and payment in an envelope and send them to the address below. You will be responsible for shipping costs. (We only accept checks or money orders for now. If you prefer, we can accept PayPal transactions. Contact us for details.)

Feel free to call or write with any questions you might have. We'd be glad to talk with you.
